Our Journey Begins - Halo Waypoint News Article

Updated: Jul 4, 2021

In addition to the trailer that everyone saw at E3 2018, 343i released a news article on Waypoint to talk about the project. Here, we didn’t see too much more information than we had already gotten in the trailer, but there were some key phrases that are worth mentioning.

“We still have a long way to go until we ship the game, so things will certainly evolve between now and the release of Halo Infinite, though the engine demo is a clear indication of the direction we are heading with our next game and a great snapshot of where our tech is right now.”

As mentioned above, the trailer we saw was an engine demonstration, so we should take some of what we saw with a grain of salt, as it may be inaccurate to the final game. However, there are several broad strokes in the trailer, such as its atmosphere and creative direction, that have been driving the direction of the game for years.

“Halo Infinite will feature Sparth’s (Art Director, Nicolas Bouvier) new art style that draws significant inspiration from the most iconic and historic parts of the Halo franchise and your feedback, all while modernizing and taking advantage of the full power of the Xbox One family. The new Master Chief helmet directly showcases our new art style.”

The Art Director for Halo Infinite is Sparth, and, as mentioned above, Halo Infinite is drawing major artistic inspiration from previous, iconic Halo games, especially Halo 2 and 3, but with some other elements both new and old.

“The team also heard feedback loud and clear on the amount of time spent playing as the Master Chief in Halo 5. In Halo Infinite, the game will focus on the Master Chief and continue his saga after the events of Halo 5.”

Remember how you only played as the Master Chief in three of the fifteen Halo 5 missions? That won’t be a problem in Halo Infinite: this game will be all about the Master Chief.

“In the future, you will be able to join early flighting programs that will let members of the community play the game with us, and give direct feedback, much like the current Insider flighting program for Halo: The Master Chief Collection.”

Halo Infinite will have flights prior to launch! Although we have not yet had any flights, they will be happening this year. Sign up for the Insider program if you haven’t already to have a chance at participating in the program!

This short article provided us with some additional information on the game:

  • The Master Chief is the focus in Halo Infinite, unlike Halo 5: Guardians where the player played mostly as Spartan Locke.

  • Halo Infinite will be part of the flighting program prior to its release.
