Campaign Gameplay Trailer

Updated: Feb 9, 2022

Shortly after the Campaign demo was revealed, this Campaign Gameplay Trailer dropped on YouTube. Although most of the stuff showcased in this trailer had already been seen in the demo, there were a few noteworthy features.

Right after using the grapple hook to gain a height and momentum advantage, the Chief pulls out an Energy Sword! This weapon’s design seems closest to its Halo 2 version, which was more rounded than versions in later games, and the way that the Chief is holding the weapon also seems most like Halo 2.

Although the context is unclear, the presence of three red lights in a triangular pattern reflected in the Chief’s visor has caused some to theorize on the possible presence of Mendicant Bias in the Campaign. Although it seems like a stretch, the similarity is present nonetheless.

Right after the Chief kills this Brute, the Brute drops his weapon, which is revealed to be the VK78 Commando that Chief uses in the gameplay demo. Indeed, the Brutes seem to be more than willing to pick up and use UNSC weaponry just as much as their own.

The Chief throws a new kind of grenade here, one that generates a field of electricity around it when thrown.

The grenade has a stun effect on the enemies that are near the grenade as it travels across the landscape. Although a similar grenade appeared in Halo: Spartan Assault and Halo: Spartan Strike, its appearance in Infinite is the first time it will be featured in an FPS Halo title.

The Battle Rifle is back! And this time it looks much closer to its Halo 2 and Halo 3 appearance. It has a 36-round magazine as well.

Although it is too dark to see any details, there are two Marines riding with the Master Chief in his Warthog, confirming that we will see some friendly forces during our time on the ring.

Summary

While we didn’t get quite as much information out of this gameplay trailer, we still discovered a few interesting details.

  • The Energy Sword will be returning, and it appears to be closer to the Halo 2 model in its appearance and in the way it is held.

  • Although purely speculation, Mendicant Bias may be present in the Halo Infinite Campaign due to the reflection of three red lights arranged in a triangle in the Chief’s visor.

  • Brutes can use the VK78 Commando in addition to the CQS48 Bulldog, showing that they can take advantage of the same UNSC weapons available to the Chief.

  • A new grenade with a stun capability will also appear in Infinite.

  • The Battle Rifle will return as it appeared in Halo 2 and Halo 3.

  • Marine allies will also appear in Infinite while exploring the Halo ring, and they can ride in the player’s Warthog as they did in prior Halo games
